DEVIL'S DEEP

(David Heavenor)
(Heavenor PRS/MCPS)
While I was living in University Halls of residence in Edinburgh a friend called round to say we had to go and dig out this guy who had just been dumped by his girfriend. When we got to his room he was in a kind of catatonic state , completely withdrawn and flaccid like a burst ballon, not wanting to do anything or go anywhere. We managed to take him out on the town more by force than volition. So this is a song for you if you've ever been dumped.
DEVIL'S DEEP

I'm sorry I'm not concentrating on being here with you
But time is a disease in me, it makes me stare you through
And it's not that I want to disappear
But I've lost the love to speak
How I want to be close to you
But I feel like a crazed antique

And I know I've got a heartache for the song that once lived here
I know I've got a heartache for someone I once was near

Watching waves pour down
Moving in their course
I want to run in to them
And scream at their source
For my memories they haunt me like this broken love affair
Cast along my bay of dreams
Layer after layer

The way of pain distills a motion in my mind
Where love has lost its language
Where love no more seems kind
And they say the way to your lover is a narrow course to tread
But I never thought it would come to this
Devil's deep and blue sea red
