David Heavenor: Music
CAST
()
(Heavenor PRS/MCPS)
I used to live in a small hamlet in the East Lothian countryside and at night I would sometime walk under the stars and gain a new perspective on life, the universe and everything which you miss tramping under the eerie orange glow of municipal street lamps and 'the shelters of stone.' I also love the word Cast as it has so many wonderful lyrical connotations, not least the name of my cousin Mairi's band with Dave Francis. Mairi played fiddle on the Winter's Children recording.

Take a look at the tree babe
Symbol of a cross
Every time I see it babe
It makes me feel quite lost
Take a look at the ocean, babe
Just look at her extent
Every time I feel is devotion, babe
It makes me feel quite spent
And in the sea I cast a stone
And the sun comes up
And the sun goes down
The moon takes her place on the merry go round
The stars come out and wave their hands
Spread a strange light on all my best laid plans
Take a look at the stars babe
Winking in the night
Do they tell you who you are babe?
Do they tell you wrong from right?
Take a look at the planets babe
Cold reflections of the sun
It came to me in a day dream babe
That they make me feel someone
And in the sky I cast a stone
Take a look at your journey babe
Do you think you’re going some place?
I can see it in your eyes babe
You’ve got distance on your face
Take a look at your mirror babe
Can you see your face at all?
I’d love to give you a name child
But I’ve lost the trace to call
And in my heart I cast a stone
