David Heavenor: Music
THE SHADOW OF HER FEAR
(David Heavenor)
(Heavenor PRS/MCPS)
One of my first songs which was part of a set I performed in a support slot in a small Scottish tour with English Gospel/Blues band Out of Darkness. Their drummer Tim Anderson was one of the first people who made me believe in the songs..
THE SHADOW OF HER FEAR
Her evening begins
She’s woken to dream through the night
What a comfort returned
The music soothes mellow
Her mind turns to mist
For longing to miss out the meaning
Of a life ruled by a fist
His words are well known
A patterned response to the dream
Of what their lives could never be
It’s a theme that he screens in his mind for her days
But he always forgets that he’s been here before
For time dims in the haze
And she can’t say a word that she’s not said before
Can’t even dream on her own any more
Every day is a yesterday if she opens her mind to see
That she’s walking in darkness
For there’s nothing here to be
The evening turns late
So she’ll go and sleep easy and lose herself far from the day
With a warm lonely body to shadow the light
For she knows that he’s longing to lose himself too
In the vault of the night
But who seems to care
We’re losing together, sweet child
We’re just another shroud round life
I’d love to say that we love but there’s so much denied
But I can’t stand with him any more
Our paths must divide
For I can’t say a word that I’ve not said before
Can’t even dream on my own any more
Every day is a yesterday if I open my mind to see
For I’m walking in darkness
Around the shadow of my fear
Mama lend me the fare
I’m going to cut all my hair
Bobby, when I meet you there
Where the sky meets the sea
With your eyes touching me
Bobby stretch out a life that fits
I’m going to slip my body into it
Bobby, I see your face so softly lit
Open arms, open land, open heart, open hands.
