ANOTHER EDEN

(David Heavenor)
(Heavenor PRS/MCPS)
Album: In Northern Towns Like These & Another Eden

Yet another song set in Edinburgh. You may recognise the cobbled streets of The Royal Mile and the wonderful 'Eden' of the Pentland Hills, just south of the city next to the roaring road of the City bypass. Have a look in the Photo section for a glimpse of Glencorse, then go up there and breathe deeply... Written in Aberdour in Fife where the flat looked over the Forth with a view of all the settings for the song. Dunedin is the old name for Edinburgh.

ANOTHER EDEN

Open the book on a Northern sky
What about these secrets that you can’t hide?
Talk to me, talk the way
You used to sing, you used to play
Always special, always new
Always precious always pure
But now you’re seeking another reason
But now you’re needing another Eden

I’ll chase and catch your fleeting ghost
Down through this city out to the coast
In that old blue car we laughed and lied
Until the truth wore out the tyres
Under waxing moon and waning sun
You crossed the sea and I got burned
Because you’re seeking another reason
Because you’re needing another Eden

Return my love
Return my love to me
Sweet holy dove
Rise up and rest with me
Because I’m seeking another reason
Because I’m needing another Eden

I think I’ll drive to Swanston in the rain
Climb and cross Glencorse again
City boy, country girl
They posed their questions to the world
Love and duty, right and wrong
The lording sky, the siren song
But now they’re seeking another reason
Because they’re needing another Eden

By a lattice gate on the cobbled mile
You stood transfixed in love’s last light
The home crowds sway through this old grey town
The traders snap their shutters down
A Baltic chill sweeps the chaff away
Down the vennel of the day
Because you’re seeking another reason
Because you’re needing another Eden

Return my love
Return my love to me
Sweet holy dove
Rise up and rest with me
Because I’m seeking another reason
Because I’m needing another Eden
