BOBBY IN THE WIRE
()
David Heavenor MCPS/PRS
Sometimes ideas and subjects for songs seem to come from nowhere. I'd always had this idea about 'Bobby in the Wire, Bobby in the War.. ' and it turned into a song about the Irish Republican Bobby Sands who died after a hunger strike lasting sixty six days in 1981 in the Maze prison. I finished it after hearing a story on The Moral Maze on Radio 4 about a loyalist who had given up his campaign after being affected by the sacrificial manner of his death. The song is now featured on the Bobby Sands website at http://www.bobbysandstrust.com/multimedia/songs

BOBBY IN THE WIRE
When my world turned blue
I never thought of you
Bobby in the wire
Bobby in the war
Nineteen fifty four
New boy at the door
Bobby in the wire
Bobby in the war
Guess my name is black
Guess my grave is tagged
Guess my sins kick back
Death I’ve never dealt
Graves I’ve never knelt
Bobby in the wire
Bobby in the war
Cells I’ve never trashed
Skin I’ve never slashed
Bobby in the wire
Bobby in the war
Names I’ve never known
Wounds I’ve never sewn
Bobby in the wire,
Bobby in the war
Sixty six days done
Rathcoole boy has gone
Bobby in the wire
Bobby in the war
At the mouth of the Foyle
Marcella’s voice sings loud
For Bobby in the wire,
Bobby in the War
