CARLEEN ON THE PHONE

(David Heavenor)
David Heavenor PRS/MCPS
I love the Guillemots song Made Up Love Song No 43 with the great line 'The best things come from nowhere'. This is a song about just that... Also has some associations with Glasgow as I went to a few of the opening concerts for the new BBC studios at Pacific Quay and crossed the squinty bridge which lights up in an arc of blue at night and reminded me of a songwriter friend who lives in that city 'the sweet soul giver'. Also plays a bit on the Peter Green lyric from ' Need Your Love so Bad' Need someone to stand up - to stand up and tell me when i'm lyin''
'Don't lie so much' she said
'It doesn't suit you
I'll bring red wine and bread
And truth with beauty'
Carleen's on the phone
With love and laughter
To lift me from my danger zone
To meet down town
And dream the future

What shall we do today?
The world is open
I'll take you to the place
That heals the broken
Carleen steps into the light
That floods this winter city
That courses along the Clyde tonight
Showing up her beauty

No word for lonely
No name for sad
For you're the best friend I've ever had
I'll take you dancing along a new found shore
The moon is writing your name
Upon my heart once more

I heard a boy sing in the west
The sweet soul giver
His hands describe an arc of blue
Over Glasgow's river
Carleen steps on the slanted bridge
Above black water
While his song is like a secret balm
For every son and every daughter
