David Heavenor: Music
BAD MAN'S PRIDE
()
David Heavenor PRS/MCPS
Album: In Northern Towns Like These
Not quite sure where this one came from. I've been listening to quite a lot of Americana of late and when I was learning guitar I learned a lot from early American folk music - ballads like The Lily of the West and The Banks of the Ohio. So here is my murder ballad. Recorded in the basement of The Queen's Hall when I was waiting for an evening concert.
LIke this? But at iTunes or CD Baby
A good man died where the rivers rise
Got his life caught in a bad man's pride
Bring me my horse, bring me my gun
Fetch up my anger like the rising sun
The south wind spoke, a lantern broke
A dust bowl devil made me choke
Bring me my heart, bring me my soul
Bring me my saddle and a sleeping roll
Farewell my dixie darling, farewell my dixie girls
Farewell my secrets and my sorrows
There's a good man down on the ground
So dress me in a rattlesnake skin
Bring back my bible to the wayside inn
Yes I can ride and I can wait
I'll grease my rifle by this tear stained gate
Don't want you, don't need you, there’s a scar upon my skin
I don't want you, don't need you to let the lovelight in
Or the song upon the wind, the song upon the wind
